World of Warcraft Classic Leveling Guide Wiki Guide

Two Alliance races and two Horde races can become a Mage. They are:

  • Humans
  • Gnomes
  • Trolls
  • Undead

Gnomes are usually seen as the better pick for a mage, as their increase to Intellect bolsters the best stat a mage can have, and in PvP, the ability to use Escape Artist can prevent you from getting stuck in the sights of an incoming enemy. Meanwhile, Humans ability to detect Rogues can be a blessing, but its a lot more situational.

Trolls are a good pick for Mages that want to focus on PvE, thanks to their increased damage on beasts, and their ability to use Berserking to increase casting stats, and Regeneration to reduce downtime leveling or grinding. Meanwhile, Undead are usually regarded as a better PvP choice due to the Will of the Forsaken, which lets them get the edge on Priests and Warlocks.

Whether you're new to the game, have only played during the expansions since Cataclysm, or are returning to WoW Classic after a long time away, there are many things you should know before getting into the optimal paths for leveling from 1 to

The most important thing to remember is that many quality of life changes and streamlined leveling systems are not in place in WoW Classic - quests aren't always thrown in your face, and fighting against mobs may not be as easy and quick.

Mages are one of the most versatile casting classes, when it comes to dealing damage. Druids and Priests have more options (with both having access to Healing spells), and Warlocks have powerful demons which can prevent them from taking damage. Because of this, playing a Mage can be a bit tricky.

Outside of Frost specialization, there aren’t many reliable, constant ways to keep your distance from foes and, since you can’t heal, it’s more important to keep your distance than it is for other casters.

Thankfully, Mages have a wide variety of spells which offer convenience for the Mage. Once the Teleport spells unlock, Mages can move around Azeroth much faster than any other classes, blipping from capital city to capital city in mere seconds. After Portals become available, you can bring teammates along with you, making group activities much faster and more convenient.

While Mages also rely on their mana pool more than other classes, they can also conjure food and water to heal themselves and restore their mana. Mages are fast-moving, incredibly potent damage dealers, which bring a lot of utility to any group they join. If you want to blow things up with Fire magic, slow and shatter enemies with Frost magic, or dabble in the bizarre Arcane arts, the Mage is for you.

Below you'll find a few general tips to keep in mind when trying to level as a Mage.

  • Mages have a specialized playstyle to level very quickly by grinding using AOE spells like Arcane Explosion.
  • Conjure Food and Conjure Water ensure that although Mages often have to sit to eat and drink, they'll always have a steady supply of good consumables without spending coin.
  • You should keep a Rank 1 Frostbolt on your action bars. This functions as a very fast-casting, cheap, slowing spell which has no cooldown. It is useful in PVE and invaluable in PVP.
  • Make sure to use your wand to finish off opponents. This will begin your mana regeneration earlier than if you used a spell like Fire Blast to finish them off.
  • In PVP, Frost Mages will do well to root people with Frost Nova or other immobilizing Frost abilities, then take advantage of Shatter talent to get a critical hit. Use a powerful spell on an opponent when they are frozen - often this means using Fire Blast fairly quickly before the ice melts.

Although you can make a variety of builds work if you truly want to, Frost is the way to go when leveling a Mage. Being able to control the battlefield with powerful damaging spells which also slow or freeze opponents is an incredible boon to the solo player (and getting used to this playstyle makes jumping into PVP even easier).

Frost Build

  • Arcane - 12
  • Fire - 0
  • Frost - 39

This build focuses on slowing enemies with Frost spells, freezing them if necessary, then capitalizing on the increased critical strike chance and damage of Shatter to crush them with incredibly powerful, yet mana-efficient, spells.

One of the major pros of playing a Frost Mage is, virtually every talent in the entire tree is incredibly useful. It’s hard to go wrong picking a talent because, if it looks good, it probably is. Additionally, there is flexibility for certain playstyles.

Also, if you want to spend a few more points in the Arcane tree to grab Improved Arcane Explosion for better AOE, or Arcane Resilience to make your Mage a bit sturdier, this build definitely allows for that.

  • Begin by picking up ‘’’Elemental Precision’’’ to make sure your spells won’t be resisted. A resisted spell is a waste of time and mana, so avoid it at all costs by taking every rank of this talent.
  • Next, pick up at least two ranks of ‘’’Improved Frostbolt.’’’ You can go for a full five if you like, for the fastest casting times, but you’ll need at least two ranks to proceed.
  • Pick up everything in the next row. ‘’’Ice Shards’’’ makes your crits hit much harder, ‘’’Frostbite’’’ adds a chance to freeze chilled opponents (which will lead to more crits later in the build), ‘’’Improved Frost Nova’’’ unlocks the most important talent in the build, and ‘’’Permafrost’’’ makes the excellent Chill status even more powerful.
  • Pick up ‘’’Cold Snap’’’, which is a powerful defensive cooldown when combined with the ‘’’Ice Block’’’ or Frost Nova spells. Also, grab at least two points of ‘’’Piercing Ice’’’ to boost your damage.
  • In the next row, pick up ‘’’Arctic Reach’’’ for extra Frost spell range, ‘’’Frost Channeling’’’ to increase the efficiency of your spellcasting, and the all-important ‘’’Shatter’’’, the lynchpin in the build which increases your critical strike chance by a whopping 50% against frozen targets.
  • In the next row grab ‘’’Ice Block’’’ to unlock a powerful defensive cooldown, then grab ‘’’Improved Cone of Cold’’’ to increase the damage of the excellent AOE spell.
  • Finally, grab ‘’’Ice Barrier’’’ to add a powerful absorption shield to your repertoire.
  • Feel free to dip into the Arcane tree at any time while leveling (you can even begin there), as these talents will always be useful to the leveling Mage.
  • Begin by picking up ‘’’Arcane Subtlety’’’ to reduce the likelihood your spells will be resisted, then grab 3 points in ‘’’Arcane Focus’’’ to unlock the next row.
  • Pick up both points in ‘’’Wand Specialization’’’ because you’ll want to get the most out of your frequent wand usage.
  • The all-star of the Arcane tree is ‘’’Arcane Concentration’’’ which adds a chance for your casts to make your next spell free.

With your talent trees mapped out, you'll still need to reach the levels need to unlock them. In the meantime, knowing which skills and spells to pay for and unlock can save you time - and more importantly money

As a general rule of thumb, any skills and spells that become available between level 1 and 10 are worth picking up, if for no other reason than they won't put a big dent in your wealth accumulation by this point.

  • As your primary damage-dealing spell, always buy upgrades for ‘’’Frostbolt’’’. You’ll know a Rank 1 version of the spell, and you can upgrade it at Levels 8, 14, 20, 26, 32, 38, 44, 50, and
  • ‘’’Conjure Water’’’ will help reduce your downtime significantly, so try to keep it up to date as well. Learn it at Level 10, then buy upgrades at Levels 20, 30, 40, 50, and
  • The Intelligence buff, ‘’’Arcane Intellect’’’, is another essential spell, so be sure to learn this spell at Level 14, then upgrade it at Levels 28, 42, and
  • ‘’’Frost Nova’’’ is an absolute life-saver, so you’ll want to learn this spell at Level 10, then buy the few upgrades that exist at Levels 26, 40, and
  • ‘’’Blizzard’’’ is a great ranged AOE spell, especially when you have the Shatter talent. Frost Nova enemies, Blink, then turn and cast Blizzard to deal massive damage. Learn this spell at Level 20, then pick up upgrades at Levels 28, 36, 44, 52, and
  • While it has roughly the same area of attack, ‘’’Arcane Explosion’’’ differs from ‘’’Blizzard’’’ in a key way; the damaging area of ‘’’Arcane Explosion’’’ centers on the Mage. This makes it great for dealing with enemies who get too close, or when you are taking out large numbers of very weak enemies. Learn it at Level 14, then train upgrades at Levels 22, 30, 38, 46, and
  • All of these spells will deplete your mana quickly, regardless of how efficient they are. Because of this, be sure to learn ‘’’Evocation’’’ at Level 20 to significantly shorten your mana recovery time.
  • ‘’’Blink’’’ is perhaps the single most useful defensive spell in a Mage’s spellcasting vocabulary. Use it to avoid taking damage while falling, to escape the danger of melee enemies, or simply to make your way through the world more quickly. Be sure to learn it once you reach Level

Finding ways to improve yourself is always tough in a game like World of Warcraft, due to the nature of random drops. That said, there are certain things you should look out for, and a few items you should make sure to try to obtain along the way to make sure your Mage is always at their best.

Best Wands for Leveling

Mages are powerful spellcasters and, because of this, they rely far more on stats and bonuses than melee-focused classes (who need to make sure they always have the strongest weapons).

When looking for the best Mage gear, always prioritize Spell Power, Intellect, and Spirit. Spell Power is rare, especially at lower levels, but it directly increases the damage of your spells. Intellect increases your mana pool, and Spirit increases your mana regeneration.

Although you can equip one or two-handed weapons, a Mage should never let an opponent get close enough to use them. Instead, keep enemies at a distance, using the various spells at your disposal to slow them, then use a wand to finish them off.

This strategy also lets your mana start regenerating faster, so keep your wand at the ready. Here’s a list of some great wands to obtain as you level up:

  • Lesser Magic Wand - Requires Level 5. Crafted with the Enchanting profession.
  • Greater Magic Wand - Requires Level Crafted with the Enchanting profession.
  • Gravestone Scepter - Requires Level Obtained by completing the Blackfathom Villainy quest for Blackfathom Deeps. The quest can be obtained from Argent Guard Thaelrid in Blackfathom Deeps and is turned in to Bashana Runetotem in Thunder Bluff. (Horde Only)
  • Excavation Rod - Requires Level Obtained by completing the Ormer’s Revenge quest in the Wetlands. The quest can be obtained from and turned in to Ormer Ironbraid in Wetlands. (Alliance Only)
  • Ghomish Zapper - Requires Level Obtained from the second quest in the Sunken Treasure quest chain. The quest can be obtained from and turned in to Doctor Draxlegauge in Arathi Highlands.
  • Blackbone Wand - Requires Level Obtained from the Wand Vendor in faction capital cities.
  • Noxious Shooter - Requires Level Obtained as a random drop from Noxxion in the Maraudon instance.
  • Mana Channeling Wand - Requires Level Obtained as a random drop from Cho’Rush the Observer in the Dire Maul instance.

Mages don’t really have many standout class quests. Unlike Warlocks (who gain new demons and even mounts from their quests), Mages typically get lackluster gear from quests, which is quickly outgrown. The only real Mage class quests worth mentioning give you a wand and a cosmetic bonus to those who are tired of counting sheep…

The Mage’s Wand

The ‘’’Mage’s Wand’’’ quest unlocks at Level 30, but it’s fairly difficult, and requires quite a bit of travel. Luckily for you, you already have access to the Teleport spells, which will make this a bit easier.

Regardless of your faction, your class trainer will have the quest ‘’’Journey to the Marsh,’’’ which will take you to Dustwallow Marsh to meet Tabetha and pick up the next quest, ‘’’Hidden Secrets.’’’

Head to The Shimmering Flats in Thousand Needles to find Magus Tirth and pick up ‘’’Get the Scoop’’’, then look for ‘’Plucky’’ Johnson, the chicken. Use the ‘’beckon’’ command while targeting him to complete the quest, then return to Magus.

After picking up ‘’’Rituals of Power’’’ from Magus, head to the Library section of the Scarlet Monastery, located in the Tirisfal Glades (use the Undercity Teleport if you are Horde). Locate the Rituals of Power tome on one of the bookshelves and return it to Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh.

Tabetha will then give you the ‘’’Items of Power’’’ quest, which sends you north to the Arathi Highlands. Kill the Witherbark Trolls you’ll find there until you obtain 10 Witherbark Totem Sticks.

With the Totems in hand, head to the cairns which comprise the Circle of Outer Binding and combine them to obtain the Bolt Charged Bramble. This quest requires you to obtain Jade, so dip into your stores if you are a miner, grab one from a friend, or purchase one from certain item vendors or the Auction House, then return to Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh to complete the quest.

While Tabetha will give you a choice of three wands, we recommend picking the Icefury Wand, as it perfectly complements our recommended Frost leveling build.

Polymorph: Pig

The purely cosmetic ‘’’Polymorph: Pig’’’ spell doesn’t become available until Level 60, but once you hit max level, head to Azshara to the meme-worthy Archmage Xylem to obtain the ‘’’Warlord Krellian’’’ quest.

Head down to the Ruins of Eldarath to find the Warlord, then dispatch the naga and bring the Prismatic Shell back to the Archmage, then collect the ‘’’Fragmented Magic’’’ quest.

Head back to the area where you found Krellian, then use Polymorph on the Spitelash Naga, which will quickly multiply. Destroy the tiny sheep until you have racked up a high enough bodycount to satisfy Xylem, then return to him to complete the quest and obtain the spell, Polymorph: Pig.

Mages bring utility and heavy single-target or area-of-effect (AOE) damage to parties, and they do all of this from ranged positions, making them flexible, welcome additions to any party.

Mages can also use their Portal abilities to help teammates back to capital cities once the job is done, which may even net you tips from group members.

In dungeons and raids, they also have the most valuable crowd control (CC) in the game, via the powerful spell, Polymorph. This allows them to effectively reduce the number of opponents by one, which is incredibly useful, from questing in the world, to dungeons, PVP, and even raids.

Mages can also conjure refreshments for a modest mana cost, which they can distribute to the rest of the party, shortening the amount of time it takes the group to recuperate between mob pulls, or after wipes.

Mages also have high mobility through the Blink spell, and the ability to kite enemies using frost spells and immobilize them with Frost Nova.

Finally, Mages can use the Arcane Intellect buff to increase damage and healing for magic-using party members.

Mages have a lot of choices for which Professions they'd like to focus on in Classic WoW, and can lean heavily on what you're looking to get out of Professions.

If you want to fight other players and primarily engage in PVP, Mining and Engineering are excellent choices. The bizarre equipment available to Engineers will allow you to ensnare or stun your opponents, charm them, deal extra damage, launch yourself across fighting arenas, and even open locks when out in the world.

If you plan on challenging difficult endgame raids, Tailoring and Enchanting is an ideal choice. This choice is common to all cloth-wearing classes, as high-level Tailoring allows the player to craft powerful Epic equipment, and Enchanting allows the player to enhance that equipment with powerful stat buffs.

Herbalism and Alchemy are also an excellent pairing for raiding Mages. This potent combination enables you to distribute powerful stat-boosting potions to the rest of the raid, or world at large (and making some coin for yourself at the same time).

If you want to make a ton of money, with little investment, pick up Herbalism and Mining. These professions require virtually no crafting, so you can simply gather herbs and ore, then sell them on the Auction House for a tidy profit. Herbs are required to make Alchemy potions for end-game raids, and Mining is used by both Engineers and Blacksmiths, so there will always be demand. Enchanting is also an excellent money-maker, but you’ll need to work harder to level up your skill to make the most of this profession.

The Incredible MCU That Time Forgot

The Incredible MCU That Time Forgot

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been around long enough now that it's easy to take for granted. But it's not the first time a shared universe of Marvel Comics characters showed up on screen. No, the FIRST MCU was in the '80s. Spinning out of the smash hit The Incredible Hulk, Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno took their small screen superhero act to the next level. This is the Inside Story of the original shared Marvel world, The Incredible MCU That Time Forgot. The mini-doc features the Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno, along with Eric Allan Kramer who played Thor, the original Daredevil Rex Smith, Elizabeth Gracen whose spy Jasmin was for all intents and purposes Black Widow, and writer Gerald Di Pego, who scripted two of the three films. The cast and crew talk about the original series, coming back with The Return of the Incredible Hulk, and riding that success through The Trial of The Incredible Hulk before wrapping up the trilogy with The Death of The Incredible Hulk. Classic WoW: Mage Leveling Guide (Talents, AOE Grinding, Wand Progression, Tips \u0026 Tricks)

Mage Quests in WoW Classic

1.

Arcane Refreshment: Learning Maximum Water Rank, Crystal Water

This is the single most important quest a Mage needs to do at Level 60, as it rewards the most powerful conjure water spell in the game: Conjure Water IconConjure Water.

Fortunately, it is also one of the shortest and easiest quests to do in WoW Classic. Simply enter Dire Maul North, talk to Lorekeeper Lydros who is inside the big door entrance located in the bottom level, which you can reach by going straight from the entrance. He will give you the Arcane Refreshment quest.

This quest requires you to go to Dire Maul East and kill Hydrospawn, in order to loot Hydrospawn Essence IconHydrospawn Essence, which you can then turn in at Lorekeeper Lydros in order to receive Conjure Water IconConjure Water. This is a really powerful type of water, and you will often be able to find people willing to tip you for a lot of stacks of it for their farming activities!

This quest rewards strong wands for the level at which you can first complete it: Icefury Wand IconIcefury Wand, Nether Force Wand IconNether Force Wand, or Ragefire Wand IconRagefire Wand. It begins at level 30, when your class trainer gives you the Journey to the Marsh quest, leading you to Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh, around the 43,57 map coordinates.

Tabetha will set you on the Hidden Secrets quest, which requires you to go to The Shimmering Flats in Thousand Needles and talk to Magus Tirth, around the 77,76 coordinates. Grab Get the Scoop from Magus, and search for a chicken named Plucky Johnson nearby. Use the /beckon emote on him to transform him back into Magus' assistant, allowing you to complete the quest and receive the next step, Rituals of Power.

This step requires you to go grab the Rituals of Power IconRituals of Power item from the Scarlet Monastery's Library wing, which you can find in a bookshelf to your left, just as you enter the Athenaeum section of the dungeon. With the book in your inventory, return to Tabetha and start the Items of Power quest, which requires you to get a Jade IconJade and a Bolt Charged Bramble IconBolt Charged Bramble. Get the Jade from Mining or the auction house, and 10 Witherbark Totem Stick IconWitherbark Totem Sticks from killing Witherbark Trolls in Arathi Highlands, around the 65,65 coordinates. These are used at the Circle of Outer Binding, around 51,48, to create the Bolt Charged Bramble. Finally, return to Tabetha to receive Icefury Wand IconIcefury Wand in the final quest, Mage's Wand.

There are a lot of other Mage quests, but they mostly have sub-par rewards that you will quickly replace with higher level quest gear or dungeon gear.

Still, for completion's sake, you can get Celestial Orb IconCelestial Orb or Celestial Stave IconCelestial Stave from the questline started with Return to the Marsh, picked up from your class trainer at Level 35 or higher.

This quest line will take you through The Infernal Orb, The Exorcism, Power in Uldaman (which requires the completion of the Uldaman dungeon) and Mana Surges, culminating in Celestial Power which will allow you to pick one of the aforementioned rewards.

There are also a few, zone specific Level 10 quests, such as Ju-Ju Heaps for Trolls in Durotar, and other miscellaneous quests with generally crappy rewards.

Mage Sunken Temple Questline

By completing this questline, which you can start from your trainer at Level 50, you can obtain Fire Ruby IconFire Ruby, an unique trinket which regenerates some Mana on use and increases your next Fire damage's spell by up to , acting as extra Spell Damage.

While not an impressive trinket by any means, its effect can allow you to burst harder with Arcane Power IconArcane Power, Presence of Mind IconPresence of Mind and Pyroblast IconPyroblast, and as such it is a somewhat irreplaceable item for any Mage wishing to do that at some point.

The other good option is the neck, Arcane Crystal Pendant IconArcane Crystal Pendant, which is easily replaced once you start raiding or when you obtain some of the pre-bis items, but which is a strong option for the Level you can get it at.

For the questline, start by picking up Magecraft from a major city Mage trainer, which leads into Magic Dust in Azshara (make sure to use the teleporter in order to reach the quest giver).

Kill and loot Blood Elf NPCs around 57, 28 in Azshara to complete it, and get its follow-up, The Siren's Coral, which is also completed nearby by killing and looting Naga NPCs around the 44,54 ruins.

The final step is Destroy Morphaz, which will lead you into Sunken Temple and require you to kill and loot Morphaz, one of the mini-boss green drakes patrolling in the innermost area.

  • 27 Feb. Added Sunken Temple questline.
  • 09 Dec. Added Dire Maul water quest and a lot of extra, smaller scale quest lines.
