If there happen to be a couple of ladies in the D.C. area inclined to part with their dignity in exchange for MLB playoff tickets, well, one Craigslist user has an offer for you.

An unidentified man has offered up on Craigslist his two tickets in the Diamond Club section of Nationals Park for Friday’s postseason-opening game against the winner of Wednesday’s NL Wild Card game between the Giants and Pirates in exchange for sexual favors. A threesome, to be specific, as he “always wanted to take place in a threesome,” presumably meaning “take part.” “Take place” almost implies he may want to simply sit in the middle of the action and watch said threesome, as if the threesome will “take place” around him. Oh well.

And chicks only, alright? It’s not like he’s some “old gross dude,” after all. He’s 24 — athletic even — so maybe only women who are good-looking need apply as well. The guy apparently may be somewhat well-off in the wallet as well, so between not being an “old gross dude,” being “24 and athletic” and how he doesn’t “really need the extra money” one can get from selling playoff tickets, he’s actually a pretty decent catch. You know, except for the entire “posts gross and perverted ads on Craigslist seeking sexual favors from strange women for unneeded items” hangup.

It’s nice — gentlemanly? — that he notes this is a “no strings attached” kind of thing going on here. He’s not expecting the three to shack up and live in some kind of hyper-sexualized “Three’s Company” kind of arrangement. Which is refreshing. Too often promises of tickets to sporting events in exchange for  indiscretions related to group sex are bogged down with, you know, “strings.”

Ultimately — and unfortunately for this guy — something tells me that there are other tickets available for Friday’s game. You know, the kind of tickets where there is no need to sexually degrade oneself by engaging in a threesome with some horndogger chumbolone in order to procure them.

It may be all for naught anyway. The ad may be taken down by Craigslist at some point, an eventuality that will in all likelihood occur sooner rather than later … if it’s even a real ad in the first place, something that isn’t necessarily a lock to begin with.

A Mountain View family of four went to Disneyland last week to take advantage of "Park Hopper" tickets purchased for $500 from a seller found on Craigslist, according to police.

"These tickets ... appeared to be a good deal for this family, however, they learned otherwise," said the Mountain View Police Department.

When they presented their tickets to visit Disneyland, the tickets were deemed invalid, police said.

"While the tickets, themselves, were legitimate, they were not activated by the store where they were somehow obtained," the department said in a statement. "Much like a store will activate a gift card, these passes required the same type of activation, and without it they are rendered useless."

Unfortunately, this family ended up paying for legitimate passes, in addition to the ones purchased from the Craigslist seller.

A MVPD Crime Suppression detective identified the Craigslist seller, a San Francisco man, who initially sold the four tickets to the victims and was about to sell more to unwitting locals, police said.

David Kao, 25, of San Francisco, was charged with two counts of suspected theft by false pretenses, along with alleged possession and transportation of marijuana for sales and transport, and was booked into the San Jose Main Jail, police said.

The Mountain View police reminds folks that interacting with sellers on Craigslist -- or any online forum to buy, sell or trade goods -- comes with risks.

"There are certain best practices that exist, which Craigslist explains here. Pay close attention to the area called 'Recognizing Scams,'" police said.

Poor grammar and spelling in an ad, along with vague correspondence, are often a telltale signs that could result in "negative" transactions, police said.

"This is often coupled with deals that seem too good to be true," police said, adding that wire transfers or sellers declining to meet in person could also spell trouble.

If you do find yourself to be a victim of a crime, call your local police department or go to the Internet Crimes Complaint website.

Tickets craigslist pirates

I myself have purchased tickets off of Craigslist twice, both for NFL games and had no troubles. Both sellers were season ticket holders that had tickets in hand that they just wanted to get rid of at the last minute. I met them within the city limits with cash and the rest was history. Would I recommend that other fans go this route?

Simply, no. Sports fans work too hard for their money to risk getting scammed and there are too many reliable ticket brokers that offer a 100% guarantee for their consumers (Stubhub, Ticketmaster, Ebay, TicketNetwork, Ticket Monster). I did because each time it was a playoff game and couldn't afford the prices offered by other websites. Look at Craigslist for what it is. It's an online classified website. Buyer beware, every transaction is at your discretion and you're often dealing directly with the owner. The anonymity is what makes Craigslist risky, whereas on Ebay, sellers have a reputation to protect.

When browsing for tickets, you will notice that some listings are listed 'tickets by dealer'. This means that your transaction will be online and most likely, legitimate because a broker owns the tickets.  For the listings that are listed ' tickets by owner', you will be dealing directly with an individual. For those of you that haven't seen Craigslist's FAQ page about scams, here it is in summary.

  • Disregard emails and texts from people that don't live in your area. Only deal with locals that you can meet in person.
  • Never wire funds to someone you don't know. Even though Paypal offers protection, it's not worth the headache.
  • Do not accept cashier checks or money orders - banks will cash fake checks and money orders and then hold you personally responsible.
  • Transactions are between Craigslist users only. There are no third parties to provide you with a guarantee.
  • Never give out financial information such as your bank account, social security number, paypal email address, etc.

There is also the possibility that you could have a "verbal agreement" to purchase tickets only to be stood up when the transaction was supposed to take place. This can put fans in a tough spot as game time approaches. Although I also don't recommend purchasing tickets on the street from scalpers (I've done that too), doing so would be a safer alternative than Craigslist. For a long list of reliable ticket brokers, check out our 'Buy Tickets' page on the main toolbar.
