Official EVE Forums vs EVE Reddit: Which and When?

Abruzzi_Oskold:

Analyzing the reasons Dev prefer reddit over the “official” forums and the effects that has had on this community might lead you to some hints at why this game is in the state it is.

I think it actually comes down to them being paid to do their job when at work, which doesn’t include hanging on the forums as part of their job description.

While outside work they are free to do what they want, and a number of them happen to be redditors, so r/eve is a natural subreddit they are active on (although less now than previously. CCP devs take a bit of a caning on reddit, so their participation there now is much lower than it was a couple of years ago).

You can get a sense of that from the times they post on r/eve, which also isn’t during business hours generally. So they aren’t posting to either the forums or reddit while at work, but outside work, they use reddit as part of their own social activities.

Hold onto your sweatpants because Killing Eve is returning two weeks earlier than originally announced. Seems like the minds behind it know how badly fans need a little will-or-won’t-they drama these days. So, you can now expect almost-lovers, Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and Villanelle (Jodie Comer), to return to your screens Sunday, April 12 on BBC America.

Considering this change in your bingeing lineup, it’s only natural to wonder what Killing Eve season three will bring—well, you and everyone else. For the past few months, fans have been flooding Reddit with their theories about where the show’s third installment will take its characters given the cliffhanger that closed off season two.

Last you saw, tensions were high to say the least: Konstantin had just used Villanelle to murder a threat without her knowing, Niko—poor Niko—had just about enough of his wife’s obsession with Villanelle and left her, and, oh yeah, Villanelle shot Eve and left her to die in some random ruins in Rome.

In the trailer, you'll have noticed new characters and iconic Villanelle outfits, but some fans are expecting something juicier.

One Reddit theory predicts that Carolyn Martens is a member of The Twelve.

Reddit user dragonbabymama picked up on various moments throughout seasons one and two when Villanelle questions whether Eve truly knows who she works for, and later when Villanelle calls Carolyn "the real boss."

"Sure, that could just be Villanelle screwing around Carolyn, but the way she looks at Carolyn, the way she observes her, it’s like she’s putting the pieces together," the person wrote.

"Villanelle might be a psychopath, but she’s very intelligent and she knows, and that's probably why she’s going after [Carolyn] in season 3" they added. "She’s figured it out."

In the comments another user agreed: "I think this is a really good theory! Also, don’t forget about the meeting from S1 with Villanelle and Carolyn in the Russian prison. I hope S3 starts to pull together all of these strings of information."

But another fan theory says Carolyn is a double agent.

In a comment on the original thread, another Reddit user makes the case that Carolyn is actually a double agent working for both MI6 and The Twelve.

"Yeah! I always thought the reference was to [Villanelle] knowing Carolyn had more pull due to her being the one that likely helped orchestrate her prison break. I’m still not sold on Carolyn being part of The Twelve. Or at least, I think she’s a double agent if she is. I keep thinking about how we met Carolyn’s boss last season and keep wondering if maybe her boss is the one that’s part of The Twelve and Carolyn knows and needs more to prove it or bring them all down? Can’t wait for the new season?!"

Still, this theory says Carolyn couldn't possibly work for The Twelve at all.

Another theory posted by Reddit user Mantorok47 is packed with receipts detailing how Carolyn can't work for or be a part of The Twelve given certain moves she's made throughout the show. "If Carolyn was part of the 12 they wouldn't have wanted to kill Konstantin when he tried to get Carolyn to take Villanelle out of the Russian prison [in season 1]. Konstantin did go against the 12 here and they were going for him in the end of S1 because of it," they wrote.

And that's not all. Mantorok47 doubles down with facts from the season 2 finale: "As Carolyn herself says, she is playing the long game. In the short term she wanted Peele dead as he was weaponizing data. She scored a big blow against the 12 and everyone else in the end of S2. She got Peele killed by Villanelle so it'll look like the 12 killed him and if Konstantin and Eve hadn't interfered, Villanelle would have been killed by Raymond so no one could have countered that narrative."

Whichever way you lean on this theory, you've got to admit, Carolyn’s proven herself to be pretty sneaky—she's run two secret MI6 task forces, after all. But whether her motivations are good or bad is something only season three can confirm, meaning you'll have to wait it out. In the words of Villanelle: "Sorry Baby."

Reddit Eve Online have gone private

Well I am not sure that was the reason r/eve went dark.

The reason Bernie is alluding to & the one which will see you instantly banned of Reddit is this,

Reddit hired a new employee to focus on childrens issues on the platform.

The employee is called “Aimee” Challenor, they are transexual. Previously while running in the Green UK political party they hired a convicted pedophile to assist the party, their father.

Then while running works for the UK Liberal democrats they hired another pedophile their “husband”.

They have now been hired by reddit, if you post or link to any of the above facts it appears your reddit account is terminated. People have stated losing reddit accounts for even just reading the above.

This has effected admins of sub reddits who have had accounts deleted. Many admins have went into private to protect users as simply reading regarding this employee can trigger a ban on reddit.

I for one am no longer using the forum site reddit. This is not a meme or troll.

Tl;dr

Reddit hired a transexual who has been alledged to be a pedophile, a person who previously hired convicted pedophiles & is married to a pedophile to spearhead development of childrens issues on their platform.

This is not a troll or a meme.

[[EVE ECHOES]] The 20 Million ISK Reddit bounty - The hunt begins

Eve Online’s yearlong war ends with an epic retreat

Eve Online’s latest player-led war has come to an end, not with a bang but with a cavernous whimper. Those on the offense have turned tail, and the defenders are putting everything they have into running them down.

The massive coalition known as PAPI campaigned for 55 weeks in a quest to destroy The Imperium, led by Alex “The Mittani” Gianturco, before losing the will to fight. Along the way, Eve Online developer CCP Games told Polygon, combatants destroyed more than $3 million worth of in-game ships and virtual infrastructure in the conflict dubbed World War Bee 2.

“This is as real as real talk gets,” said Brave Collective’s Dunk Dinkle in a live address to his fleets, in what amounted to PAPI’s concession speech. “The war is over and we have lost.”

Things kicked off in the summer of 2020 when, on July 5, war was officially declared. A fleet commander known in-game only as Vily told Polygon at the time that he led some 52,000 player accounts. By the end of the conflict, CCP says that more than 100,000 accounts were involved in one way or another.

“When we started this war, we knew that we were fighting this to the end,” Vily told Polygon at the time. “For us, this is a war of extermination. This is a war to the death. We are aiming for the removal of Mittani and The Imperium from Eve Online. [...] We are here to purge them.”

The conflict raged for months before the first big engagement, which took place in October 2020. That’s when some 8,825 accounts logged in for the single largest player-versus-player battle in video game history. But the battle was inconclusive and, just a few months later in January 2021, players once again committed their ships in record numbers. Some 13,700 accounts were poised for battle when Eve itself buckled under the weight and spoiled their plans.

“These numbers are unrivaled,” wrote CCP in a post-mortem at the time, “and unrivaled numbers [...] lead to uncharted territories when it comes to performance. Neither side of the war, or CCP, can, could or will be able to predict the server performance in these kinds of situations.”

That uncertainty continued to expand throughout 2020 and into 2021 as CCP tinkered with the economics of the game behind the scenes. Leaders on both sides say those changes made their work in prosecuting the war more complicated.

“We redid the industry system a little bit,” admitted Peter “CCP Swift” Farrell in an interview with Polygon. (He has previously gone by the handle Elise Randolph in Eve.) “There are more types of things that go into these larger [warships now], including resources in the game that weren’t really utilized that much, as well as others — like other components that have to be harvested from explorers.”

While players in distant corners of the game who rely on exploration for their fun benefited, replacing the ships that PAPI and The Imperium had brought to bear became increasingly difficult. For these and other reasons, PAPI fleet commanders and players themselves balked at the prospect of launching the final push into enemy space. As its fleets assembled for that offensive, word came that allies all along the front line were pulling out. With their flanks exposed, most of the assembled capsuleers chose to turn and run.

“As I have said before, the war would be decided over morale — not ship battles,” said Dinkle. “The will of our coalition is gone, and so the war is over. The Imperium held strong, did not waver, and outlasted the most ferocious assault ever seen in Eve. I offer an honest congratulations to all The Imperium pilots, and especially their leaders, who kept their community strong and intact over this long year of war. They have proved stronger than the entirety of Eve that pushed against them.”

The Imperium, for its part, refuses to mark the end of hostilities. CCP said it took Gianturco’s forces less than two weeks to regain the territory that they had lost over the last 13 months. Now they are out for revenge.

“You chose this path,” said Gianturco in a fiery livestream on Twitch shortly after PAPI began its withdrawal. “You were given every opportunity to choose a different way. [...] My people hunger for vengeance. You have failed and you have failed ugly.”

CCP notes, however, that both sides retain the majority of their most powerful warships. With more daylight between them, expect many months of running, ad hoc battles all over the galaxy of New Eden.

Missing Eve V refunds are reputed to exceed US$225,000

Eve Distribution is gearing to release the Spectrum monitor and the Eve V 2021, but concerns about refunds for unfulfilled Eve V orders remain. Konstantinos, co-founder of Eve Distribution and Eve-tech as it was formerly called, gave multiple reasons for what went wrong with the distribution of the Eve V in a lengthy blog post in July 2019, as we covered at the time. At the time, Konstantinos insisted that Eve Distribution would do the following in 'making things right' with customers:

We are aware of the people affected by the business struggles of the partner that previously operated the eve-tech.com web store. As we are moving to the new structure and launch new projects such as the monitor and headphones, we will make sure that their success will help these people. To maintain our reputation we are now working on the plan how to help out people affected by bad experience with the previous merchant.

A subsequent update to the blog post blamed Fortress Tech Distribution for all problems, which was incorporated in Hong Kong in 2016. Several posts on Reddit by Kirk Miller explain the links between Eve-tech and Fortress, should you wish to read more about the matter. For brevity, we shall not repeat the points contained in the posts but are worth reading, nonetheless.

According to Miller, over 90% of people he surveyed are awaiting a refund for Eve V tablets that did not arrive. Apparently, only five respondents have received a refund or a device from Eve Distribution, with the remaining 135 people still being out of pocket over three years later. Miller estimates that US$225,000 is owed to members of the r/evev subreddit alone, but reviewson Trustpilot are equally scathing.

The refund form for the original Eve V remains live, but it seems unlikely that any additional refunds will be forthcoming at this stage. Hopefully, Eve Distribution has learned from the original Eve V, but our experiences with the Spectrum monitor suggest otherwise. The company claims that the Spectrum monitor and Eve V 2021 will begin shipping in late February and Q3 2021, respectively. It remains to be seen if that will be the case, though.

Thanks to Kirk Miller for bringing the ongoing refund situation with original Eve V orders to our attention.
