The City of Charles Town holds Municipal Court on the first Wednesday of each month from 5-7 PM and the second Tuesday of each month from 9-10 AM. Specific arraignment dates are listed near the bottom of traffic citations when they are issued.
IT IS YOUR OBLIGATION TO KNOW YOUR COURT DATE AND APPEAR ON THAT DATE.
Defendants have several convenient options to satisfy their citations:
PAYMENT WITHOUT APPEARANCE AT COURT – Pay the full amount of the fine at the City of Charles Town City Hall, or with a credit card by calling 877-794-1209; or online at www.charlestownwvpayments.com; or by mailing your check or money order made payable to the City of Charles Town. Your copy of the citation must be signed on the back and mailed to city hall at the following address:

ARRAIGNMENT OPTION – An arraignment date has been designated on the front of your citation. If you wish to have a trial, please inform the Court Clerk upon or before your appearance for arraignment so that a trial date can be scheduled.
Failure to appear for a scheduled arraignment or payment of fine could cause your license to be suspended by the WV Division of Motor Vehicles (WVDMV).

Court Sessions begin promptly at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - Guests enter via CPD security scan. Court appearance dates are written at the bottom of the citation.
Municipal Court is located in the City Hall building on the corner of Virginia and Court Street. The entrance
is on Court Street side of the building and opens at 3:00 p.m. for court sessions. The Municipal Court Clerks? Office
entrance is through the front revolving doors on Virginia Street, first door on the left, room 103. Parking is
available in the Shanklin Parking Building next to City Hall on Virginia Street.

The docket is called at the beginning of each session. Witnesses are released from subpoena if the defendant is not present at roll call. Defendants not on the docket or arriving after roll call will sign the late list. For identification purposes, please bring your Driver?s License or State issued Photo ID.
Court Appearance Date is found at the bottom on the front of the citation. Requests for continuance must be received by the court in writing 7 days in advance of the court date, good cause must be described. If a continuance is granted by the judge, a notice is sent stating the new court date.
With regard to requesting continuances for court proceedings for the reason of:
A doctor's excuse will be required to be presented with the written request for continuance (a faxed copy signed by doctor will be accepted). If the defendant is hospitalized, the defendant should request the hospital to fax documentation to the court; the defendant must provide an excuse to the court upon release or 3 days before his/her next court date.
A copy of an obituary, death certificate, or an excuse from the funeral home with the defendant's name must be provided of proof of attendance to a funeral. This documentation must be submitted with the written request for continuance (a faxed copy of the obituary will be accepted).

- Court doors open at 3:00 p.m. on each court date
- The Court Docket roll call is called promptly at 3:30 p.m. for each session
- The docket may be viewed outside the courtroom door on the day of court or on this website

Request a Continuance
Use the Defendant’s Motion to Continue to request a different date for an upcoming court date.
IMPORTANT: All motions submitted less than 10 days prior to the court date will be reviewed by the Municipal Judge for a decision. The completion of the Motion to Continue does not guarantee a continuance.
If a continuance is granted by the judge, a summons with a new court date will be issued.

Bluefield City Municipal Court is located at the City of Bluefield City Hall complex, 3rd floor. Court sessions are typically held the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month starting at 8:30 am.

The Judge for the City of Bluefield Municipal court is Honorable Judge David Kersey, the following rules are imposed as it relates to all court hearings for defendants or visiting guest:
- No food or drinks are permitted in the court room
- No short shorts or tank tops are allowed
- No cell phones are permitted, if you are caught using a cell phone during court a $50.00 fine will be issued, the phone will be returned upon payment of the fine.
